Sunday 19th August 2018 Morning Prayer Devotion
Scripture Reading:- Matthew 11:1-19
Topic:- Starting Well And Ending Woefully
Text:- Mark 1:6
Starting well and ending it woefully is about the story of John the Baptist, of his greatness and of his fall. We are discussing this message so as to know that it is not your beginning well that matters, but you ending it successfully. There are many in the Bible that fit into this message and not only John the Baptist. For example, Saul the King in the book of 1 Samuel and Judas Iscariot in the four Gospels.
The parents of John the Baptist are worthy of emulation. They were perfect in their way of life; they served God in sincerity without compromising their faith in Him, despite their problem of bareness. See Luke 1:5-23.
When John too came to the scene, he was distinct, even commended by our Lord Jesus Christ Himself. He was a great man and started well because of the seven notable remarks concerning him.
Firstly, he was the first person to start baptizing people, [no wonder he was named like that]. See Luke 3:2-6.
Secondly, he was the one that baptized Jesus, the Savior of the whole world i.e. he baptized the Baptizer. See Mark 1:7-10.
1. I come to Your throne of God for forgiveness, cleansing and mercy over all my sins and transgressions, in the name of Jesus Christ.
2. Oh God, as I confess my sins and shortcomings, wash me thoroughly with Your blood, in the name of Jesus Christ.
3. Oh God, I refuse to start well and end it woefully, in the name of Jesus Christ.
Happy Lord’s Day!
