MONDAY 25TH JUNE 2018 MORNING PRAYER DEVOTION
SCRIPTURE READING:- 2 SAMUEL 21:1-14
TOPIC:- ZEAL WITHOUT KNOWLEDGE
TEXT:- 2 SAMUEL 21:2
Zeal is what you want to do in a fast mood e.g. you want to buy a car and you suddenly decided to learn driving by all means. Any zeal without the knowledge of the thing is a bad zeal.
In 2 Samuel 21:1-14, there was famine which was caused by King Saul’s zeal in killing the Gibeonites. Whereas, for the famine to cease, Saul’s children must be killed. Saul thought he was zealous for the benefit of the Israelites.
In 2 Samuel 21:3, the Gibeonites must pronounce blessings upon the present Israelites in order for the famine to cease.
Saul’s zeal neither knew nor remembered the oath between the Israelites and the Gibeonites during the time of Joshua as the Leader of Israel, Joshua 9:1-27, most especially in verse 3-15.
It was another generation that had to pay for the error of Saul as famine struck the land during the reign of King David and the grandchildren of King Saul were slaughtered in recompense for the offense of Saul.
In John 2:13-17, Jesus was zealous as He drove out those who made the Temple of God a market place and money changing center. Jesus demonstrated zeal which could be termed as holy anger, His disciples helped us to know the type of zeal He put on.
His kind of zeal was based on the knowledge of God’s word which was turned up-side-down. We all know that God’s temple and our body which is the temple of the Holy Spirit must be made holy, and that was what Christ demonstrated because He had Godly knowledge of His zeal, I Corinthians 3:16-17; 6:19; 2 Corinthians 6:16-17.
In fact, according to the book of Hosea 4:6, if you have zeal without knowledge, you are liable to pay for it; because it states that God’s people are destroyed for lack of knowledge and the destroyer is nobody else than the Devil himself, John 10:10a.
Some Zeal Displayed Without Being Accompanied With Knowledge:
1. Fighting for God which is termed as rebellion. See 2 Samuel 6:6-7.
2. Lie from you or someone else which is termed as deceit. See Revelation 21:8.
3. Immorality, abortion and defilement of your body before wedding. See Hebrews 13:4.
4. Holiness disappears among the youths. See Hebrew 12:14.
5. Your dressing to kill and worldly-like, [unbelievers]. See I Peter 3:3-4.
6. Prayerlessness but singing and dancing. See Isaiah 56:7.
7. Respect has disappeared. See Romans 13:7.
Prayer Points:-
1. Lord my God, let my zeal change to Your zeal henceforth, in the name of Jesus Christ.

Have A Fulfilling Monday!
