Scripture:- 1 Corinthians 8:1-13
Topic:- Women Putting On Trousers
Text:- Deuteronomy 22:5
Gloria Bamiloye who is the wife of the founder of the mount Zion Faith Ministry;Mike Bamiloye has talked about women putting on trousers which is one of the major controversies in Christianity.
According to her with fact she gave, Christian women are not expected to wear trousers because it does not protray them as children of God. Gloria Bamiloye backed up her point with verses in the bible, the book of Deuteronomy 22:5.
The verse says women should not put what is for men and men should likewise not do so which means things which is commonly used by the men shouldn’t be used by women and what is commonly used by women should not be used by men. See 1 Corinthians 8:9.
What ever will make you to be a stumbling block, Christians should avoid it. If it is trouser that will make you a stumbling block to them that are weak, it should be avoided. See also 1 Corinthians 8:11-13.
According to Gloria Bamiloye, Jesus did not come to die for Himself but to die for us. We are saved to raise other people up and not go allow our dressing style to make others weak.
There are trousers that reveals the shape of women which cause other people to fall into sin. According to her, it is the target of the enemy.
She shared a story. She said she was coming from outside the country and at the Airport, she saw a woman, her child and her husband. She was putting on a jean trouser that revealed the shape of her body.
She said this is not love. Christians should be aware of things that can make people who are just growing in Faith to fall. She said God won’t take it lightly with anyone who makes a fellow brethren to fall. See Mark 9:42.
Mummy Gloria gave a testimony of a person who usually wear trouser due to the nature of her work. Fortunately for her, the day she went for evangelism, she didn’t put on trouser. She met a man who she and her partner preached to.
The man was just looking at her partner who put on trouser without concentrating on what they were saying. When he was no longer comfortable, he called the sister who was not putting on trouser and told her to tell her partner to excuse them. The man said he could not imagine someone like her preaching the Word of God.
Gloria Bamiloye said as children of God, you have to sacrifice things for the sake of other people who are not yet strong in Christ. The problem now is that many Christian are not ready to sacrifice anything.
Gloria Bamiloye said” if you want God to trust you with great work, you must be ready to sacrifice your comfort at times for God to have his way in your life.”
She said children of God should give themselves to the Holy Spirit because He lives in us and He is concerned about the souls of men. She prayed for God to give us understanding of his word as we follow him.
Apostle Joshua Selman in his sermon gives a lot of insight into these long standing debate and proffers a solution.
Before any argument can be made out of this verse it is important to understand what it is really saying, so that we don’t interpret it out of context.
To understand properly what the verse really means, we will be examining some words in the verse.
The word “pertaineth” in the Hebrew is the word “Keliy” It means an article, vessel, implement, or a utensil.
The word “man” used in this verse is not the word “Adam” I hope you know that Adam means man. The word used is “iysh” in Hebrew. It means a soldier, a warrior or a man of war. It is good to understand the context because at this point Israel was always fighting.
The woman shall not put on the weapons or the armor of a warrior, neither shall a warrior put on a woman’s garment, for all that do it is an abomination unto the Lord.
In the Jewish custom, it was an abomination for women to go for war. They were not allowed according to the Jewish priesthood. To tell you the truth, the official Jewish dressing for men were even skirts. There are many parts of the world were men wore skirts.
It is not a matter of stopping people from wearing trousers. If you stop them from wearing trousers, the promiscuous ones will look for another way to show off their bodies. In Jesus days, there were harlots who don’t wear trousers but what they wore are usually very transparent.
This is what God is asking from us. He wants us to be moderate not only in dressing but in all things. That is the central truth of this topic.
Prayer Point:- Oh Lord God, give me more insight into Your Word henceforth by fire, in the name of Jesus Christ.
Happy Lord’s Day!
