Thursday 11th October 2018 Morning Prayer Devotion
Scripture Reading:- Joshua 10:1-43
Topic:- Why Are You Afraid
Text:- 2 Timothy 1:7
Most of the FEAR NOT in the Bible was said to Joshua, and also the Apostles. The main reason is for us to know that if they can successfully overcome theirs, you too will overcome yours. Then, why are you afraid?
Now that we are approaching the end of the year which many because of fear, will not see the end of the year. You need to be courageous and be determined that with God on your side, it is well.
If we are to flash back on Joshua, he was the most fearful one because he had to finish the work left undone by Moses. See Joshua 1:9; 8:1; 10:8.
Yet he was able to do gallantly well, and was able to encourage others too. See Joshua 10:25; 24:4-15 for proofs that He overcame his fear. You too can.
Elijah is another typical example of a fearful man of God. Despite the miracles and being a man of fire yet he resorted to fear, even to the extent of dominating him. This made God give his ministry to another just because of the threat of Jezebel, the evil King’s wife. See I Kings 19:1-4; II Kings 1:15. Nevertheless, he ended it gloriously by being transported to heaven in a chariot of fire and handed over his ministry to a good successor. See II Kings 2.
The disciples of Jesus are not left out too because Jesus often charged them for being fearful. The most easily remembered one was when they were faced with storm on the sea. See Mark 4:35-41. Yet they were greatly used by God, they all received the Holy Spirit and power.
This message will not be concluded if we failed to mention Timothy. Infact, Paul have to encourage him and even prayed for him to the extent of laying hands on him to cast out the spirit of fear. Yet he, he overcame. See 2 Timothy 1:7.
Remember, fear is the greatest enemy of faith, Mark 4:40. You should not be afraid of whatever you are passing through right now or that may come across your way. Also remember devil is the giver of fear and not God, II Timothy 1:7). God has not finished with you yet, Exodus 14:5-30. Your last bus-stop is where God starts with you, I Kings 17:8-16.
Therefore, why should you be afraid? Only fear God and doubt your doubt and fear. You will make it.
