Saturday 3rd August 2019 Prayer Devotion
Scripture Reading:- Matthew 25:14-30
Topic:- Victory Over Enemies Of Ministerial Success [1]
Text:- Matthew 25:25
A. Introduction:
1. Our Lord Jesus Christ spoke of the enemies of the ministry in His parable of the talents. The servant was described as wicked and slothful servant. He was cast out as an unprofitable servant into outer darkness of eternal regret. See Matthew 25:26,30.
2. The purpose of this parable was to open our eyes to the enemies of ministerial success. It is one thing to hear the call of God to come into the ministry. It is something else to do the work to please God. See 1 Corinthians 10:11.
3. There are many people in the ministry who are ineffective and unfruitful despite the fact that they were anointed, gifted, educated and trained because they are victims of laziness, fear, unbelief, excuses and rebellion.
4. These five poison must be avoided by every minister who would hear, “Welldone, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy Lord.” See Matthew 25:21.
a. What is Laziness? It is whatever robs you of your potential making you not to give your best to God in your service of saving the lost. See Proverbs 22:29; 24:30-34.
• It does not mean that you are not busy, but you are busy doing nothing worthy of God.
• You are full of compromising God’s standard.
• You are fond of procrastination. See Ecclesiastes 9:10.
• Let your motto in the ministry be “do it now” because tomorrow may not be there for you.
• Many ministers prefer to talk than to work.
• Jesus’ command is to “go and preach the gospel.” See Mark 16:15.
• Many have chosen pleasure over pain, convenience over hardship.
• Such needed to stir up the gift of God in them, shake off the dust of pleasure and wake up to righteousness. See 2 Timothy 2:3-5; Revelation 3:1-3.
• Let your dead bones live and you will be a part of God’s army. See Ezekiel 37:7-10.
• The unprofitable servant was lazy. He swallowed the poison of fear.
b. What is Fear? It is the absence of courage i.e. the willingness to face fear and take risks for God. The wicked servant was afraid. See Matthew 25:25.
• Fear causes many ministers to bury their talents in the ground of their hearts. See Genesis 2:7.
• Their ministries have become cemeteries where gifts, talents and opportunities are buried.
• Every minister should be afraid to be confronted of what they needed to have done and did not do in the ministry.
• Such will weep and regret their actions before Jesus. See Revelation 21:4.
• Fear not is the most common injunction in the Bible. God told Joshua to be courageous. See Joshua 1:9.
• Fear gives birth to unbelief.
