SUNDAY 8TH JULY 2018 MORNING PRAYER DEVOTION
SCRIPTURE READING:- GENESIS 11:24-34
TOPIC:- THE GOOD AND THE UGLY MARRIAGES
TEXT:- GENESIS 18:19
The followings are some families in the Bible:-
1. Adam And Eve. See Genesis 1-4.
a. They were created by God being the first family on earth, Genesis 1:27-28.
b. They were joined by God to be the first couple on earth as an helpmate to each other, Genesis 2:18-23.
c. They became one and loved each other without sentiment, Genesis 2:24-25.
d. Their marriage was tested but failed, Genesis 3:6, 7, 15 & 21.
e. They gave birth to wicked child and also Godly children, Genesis 4:1, 2, 8, 25 & 26.
2. Abraham And Sarah. See Genesis 11:24-34.
a. Married from the same family, Genesis 11:29.
b. They carried father’s responsibility into their family, Genesis 11:31; 12:4.
c. They left for another land on God’s commandment i.e. another place to settle, Genesis 12:5-9.
d. They left for another green pasture land on their own leading because of famine, Genesis 12:10-20.
e. They allowed lie and deceit and they cover up in their marriage because of fear of death, Genesis 12:11-16 (tested but failed.
f. They settle for the less in order to allow peace to reign in the extended family, Genesis 13:5-18.
g. They permitted Satan’s deceit to dominate their marriage because of impatience and childlessness, Genesis 16.
h. Their hospitability led to fulfillment of God’s promise of child bearing, Genesis 18:1-19.
I. It is a tested and trusted family, even in training their wards and children, Genesis 18:20-33.
j. They are referred as God’s friend; and later tested on trust and faith by God and they passed, Genesis 22:1-19.
3. Zachariah And Elizabeth. See LUKE 1:5-80.
a. They are servants of God, Luke 1:5.
b. They are Godly couple, Luke 1:6.
c. They are faced with a challenge of childlessness, Luke 1:7 (tested period).
d. They gave birth to miracle child and trained in a Godly way, Luke 1:36, 41, 57-66.
4. Ananiah And Saphira. See Acts 5:1-11.
a. They are united couple, Acts 5:1.
b. They believed and keyed into the revival in the Church through giving, Acts 5:1-2.
c. They are united to the extent of deceive the Holy Spirit and the servant of God, Acts 5:3-4, 7-8.
d. They are tested, failed and judged for their action of deceit and lie, Act 5:5-6, 9-10.
5. To Know Christian Home. See John 2:1-11.
a. Home must be built on Jesus Christ i.e. inviting Him (meaning the family must be born again, John 3:1-8; 2:1-2.
b. Family must be prayerful even before marriage, for a rightful partner, Matthew: 18:19; John 2:3.
c. There must be total trust and holiness to each other i.e. not doubting what each other are up to but believe in one another, Hebrew 13:14; John 2:3-6.
d. There must be patience i.e. submission to each other in attitude of patience and not authoritative, Ephesians 5:21-24; John 2:4.
e. There must be obedience to each other and to God, John 2:5-8.
f. There must be understanding of each other i.e. study each other’s behavior and love will develop unconditionally and automatically, I Peter 3:1-7; John 2:8-10.
g. There must be appreciation towards each other either in gift or other persons weakness, John 2:10.
h. Children must be trained in the following ways, Genesis 18:19; Proverbs 2:16; Ephesians 6:1-4; Isaiah 8:18.
● Children must be born again too i.e. train them in the way of the Lord.
● They must be educated i.e. your best legacy to your children is to send them to school.
● They must be trained in home manners i.e. how to relate to themselves, to family members and people in the society.
● There must be culture background training i.e. they must learn from their parent cultural background and Christian culture instead of idol culture.
Prayer Points:-
1. I cover my family and everything pertaining to me with the fire of Holy Ghost and the blood of Jesus, in the name of Jesus Christ.
2. Lord, I command Your fire to consume every agent of home destruction that are sent to destroy my home, in the name of Jesus Christ.
3. My Father My Father, give us wisdom, knowledge and understanding needed to build our home excellently on Your foundation, in the name of Jesus Christ.
