FRIDAY 30TH MARCH, 2018 MORNING PRAYER DEVOTION
SCRIPTURE READING:- MATTHEW 16:1-28
TOPIC:- TEN SETS OF PEOPLE THAT SUFFERED JESUS
TEXT:- MATTHEW 16:22
1. The first person that suffered Jesus was Peter: About three times, he suffered his Lord, Jesus Christ.
a. The first time was when Jesus revealed to His disciples that He would soon die. He was enraged immediately he heard that, and started to rebuke Jesus for saying that. We won’t have known that he suffered Jesus, until Jesus had to rebuke the spirit in him at that time because Jesus had to call him Satan. See Matthew 16:13-27.
b. The second time Peter suffered Jesus was when Jesus told His disciples that all of them will be offended because of Him. But Peter said, if all departs, that he will not depart. It was at this instant that Jesus said categorically, that Peter will deny Him thrice. And when the time truly came, not only did he deny Him thrice, but also went on cursing himself that he didn’t know Jesus. See Matthew 26:31-37, 58, 69-75.
c. The third time that Peter suffered Jesus was after the death of Jesus Christ. He left for fishing, while some disciples followed him fishing. It was after much fruitless effort that Jesus came to their rescue. Then Jesus challenged him for his unfaithfulness and lack of love for Him. See John 21:1-18.
2. The second person who suffered Jesus was Judas Iscariot: Many times he suffered Jesus.
a. You will remember Jesus made him the treasurer of the group that followed Jesus, and the Bible called him a thief, and that he usually stole from the purse of the group. See John 12:1-8.
b. You will also remember that Jesus gave a word of curse on whosoever will betray Him, that it would be better if such was not born. See Matthew 18:7-11.
c. You will also remember that during the last communion feast that Jesus had with His disciples, He specifically pointed out that he, Judas Iscariot, will betray Him. Infact, immediately Judas Iscariot heard that, the devil filled his heart to use him for the mission, to reveal his Master to the enemies. See Matthew 26:20-25.
d. Another suffering he suffered Him was his real intention to betray Jesus, by planning it with the priests to sell Him to them. See Matthew 26:14-16.
e. He fulfilled his mission by betraying his Master, in arresting and showing whom Jesus was. Kissing Jesus, so as to hand Him over for crucifixion because of the money he bargained for, to betray Jesus. See Matthew 26:47-50.
f. The funniest, and the most sad events of the whole incident was that, this same Judas Iscariot was remorseful enough to return the money he collected to betray Jesus, and afterward, did commit death by hanging himself. What a wasteful life. See Matthew 27:3-5.
Take note that, anger and love have no limits. Choose the latter to have a beautiful, lovely life. Things are to be used, people are to be loved. The problem in today’s world is that, people are used and things are loved. Watch your thoughts, they become words. Watch your words, they become actions. Watch your actions, they become habits. Watch your habits, they become character. Watch your character, it becomes your destiny!
1. Oh Lord my God! I refuse to deny Your existence or Lordship over my life, in the name of Jesus.
2. Oh Lord my God! I will never betray You, never in my life, in the name of Jesus Christ.
3. Oh Lord my God! I will never sell You for any lack in my life, in the name of Jesus Christ.
4. Help me oh Lord my God, never to suffer You in anyway, in the name of Jesus Christ.
5. Oh Lord my God! Help me to remember Your love for me and to maintain it in my life always, in the name of Jesus Christ.
Happy Good Friday!
