WEDNESDAY 21ST MARCH, 2018 MORNING PRAYER DEVOTION
SCRIPTURE READING:- JOHN 8:36-58
TOPIC:– STOP LYING.
TEXT:- NUMBERS 23:19
The dictionary meaning of lying is a statement made with deliberate intent to deceive. It’s also called an intentional untruth. It also means a falsehood.
Another dictionary says, it means something intended or serving to convey a false impression or an imposture. It is also an inaccurate or false statement.
Funny enough, lies was partially allowed in the Old Testament, because, Abraham was not judge for speaking it to save himself from dying because of the beauty of his wife Sarah, in a strange land, in Genesis 12:19.
Isaac too did the same, in Genesis 26:9. That of Jacob is even being encouraged by his mother to deceive his father Isaac, in Genesis 27:1-40.
You will not believe this that this lies was even advice by God for Prophet Samuel in anointing David as King in replacement of King Saul. Those are what some Theologians are basing their argument on to justify their lies. See 1 Samuel 16:1-5.
But glory be to God, when we now scan through the New Testament, we now believe that telling lies is sin. You will note that Jesus is the first to condemn that all liars are of the devil, John 8:38-45. Apostle Paul too was not silent in speaking against liars, Ephesians 4:25. Apostle John even concluded the end of the liars,v that, they are destined for hell. See Revelation 21:8.
Whatever the name lies may be called, either white lie, or gospel lie, or holy lie, or lies of any kind, the end is destruction. See Proverb 19:9. Please, be truthful henceforth.
1. I silence all lying spirits in my life, in the name of Jesus Christ.
2. Deliver my soul Lord from lying lips and deceitful tongue, in the name of Jesus Christ.
3. O Lord purify my lips and tongue with your holy fire, in the name of Jesus Christ.
Have A Beautiful Mid-Week!
