Scripture:- 1 Kings 18
Topic:- Moses And Elijah Did Not Have Burial Ground
Text:- Deuteronomy 34:6
It is true from the Bible that great men God used to do wonders in the days of old, like Elijah and Moses, had no burial place man can access.
Elijah did not die, he was taken to heaven alive by God. Moses case was a unique one, because only God knows where Moses died and was buried.
- First, let’s look at the life of Elijah and how God used him on earth:
a. Elijah At Mount Carmel. At Mount Carmel, Elijah called down fire from heaven to consume the sacrifice on the alter he prepared for God. Elijah practically challenged the Prophets of Baal, to a test of the power of the God they serve, the Prophets of Baal failed, despite of all their calls on their gods, no response was given, but when it was Elijah’s turn, the power of the sovereign God in heaven came down as fire and consumed the sacrifice on the alter. This led to the slaughtering of the Prophets of Baal. You can find this in 1 Kings 18.
b. Elijah Fed By Ravens. During the time of famine in land of Israel, there was no rain fall and Elijah was fed by birds, called ravens, this was the making of the sovereign God, Jehovah, he made provision for his beloved servant Elijah. Elijah was a Prophet of God, he manifested the power of God, and God demonstrated his love for him, by sending Ravens to feed him during the period of hunger.
c. Elijah taken up into heaven alive by the chariots sent from heaven by God, there was no record of Elijah’s death here on earth, only his transition into heaven alive was recorded as it happened in the Holy scriptures.
d. No man can say where Elijah was buried, because he never died on earth. Well, in my own understanding, God didn’t allow Elijah die here on earth because of his faithfulness in serving him, and allowed him not to be buried here on earth, because Elijah was one amongst the greatest and powerful men of Israel that lived, and Elijah would have been worship by men on his burial grounds, which is termed idolatry by God. - Taking a look at Moses:
a. Moses At The Burning Bush. God called Moses at the burning bush, only Moses witnessed such in the history of the Bible. At the burning bush was where God gave him the commission to bring the people of Israel out of captivity in the land of Egypt.
b. Moses patted the Red Sea. This was the great manifestation of God’s power through Moses His servant, to deliver his people from the hands of the Egyptians. God instructed Moses to stretch his rod over the Red Sea and his people walked through, as the water patted, giving them way to pass unto the other side of the Sea.
c. Moses collecting the ten commandments from God. At Mount Sinai Moses met with the Lord God and collecting the instructions God gave to his people, called the ten commandments, written by God Himself on tables of stones. Moses met and stayed with God for days, forty days and night at Mount Sinai, where he was handed the ten commandments.
d. Moses face glowing out of God’s glory. The face of Moses glowed in a way so bright, that men could not look upon his face, this happened after being in the presence of God on the Mount.
e. Moses was a servant of God, he was another Prophet God used to execute his rescue mission upon his people.
f. God showed to Moses the promise land, but he didn’t enter it. Moses died and no one knew how and where he was buried, because he would have been worship at his burial place by other men, due to the wonderful display of God’s power through him, while he was on earth.
Prayer Point:- Oh Lord God, help me to stay in You till I reign with Jesus at the end, in the name of Jesus Christ.
Happy Weekend!
