Scripture:- 1 Samuel 16:1-23
Topic:- King David’s Mother
Text:- Psalm 69:8
Have you ever heard the name of the woman that gave birth to King David in the Bible? Well read on with me to know her name.
King David mother’s name was never mentioned in the Bible due to some circumstances that surrounded his birth. Am sure you must have wondered why King David was hated by his family even his siblings when other families so much love and pamper their last born.
David’s mother’s name was Nitzevet, the daughter of Adael accordingto Jewish Trading. She got married to Jesse, and bore him eight sons.
It was said that Jesse doubted Nitzevet his wife because he was told his wife committed adultery and he stopped his marital relationship with her when she bore the seventh son.
Jesse decided to marry his Canaanite servant and have children with her but the maid servant fell pity with Nitzevet [Jesse accused wife], and had a plan to switch Nitzevet to go sleep with Jesse on their wedding night.
They succeeded in the plan and Nitzevet ended up sleeping with Jesse instead of the maid servant without Jesse knowledge. Nitzevet became pregnant with David the eight son.
When Jesse discovered she was pregnant he despised her as an immoral woman and her son David. King David grew up as an outcast within his family and siblings due to the mother’s act. He became a stranger and unacceptable by his family. See Psalms 69:8.
And that was why David was left to care for sheep in the bush when Prophet Samuel invited all Jesse’s sons to be anointed as king. They felt he was not worthy of the anointing. See 1samuel 16:11.
Prayer Point:– Oh Lord God, let Your favour and grace locate me now by fire for Your position in my life, in the name of Jesus Christ.
