TUESDAY 12TH JUNE 2018 MORNING PRAYER DEVOTION
SCRIPTURE READING:- 2 KINGS 4:8-37
TOPIC:- IT IS WELL
TEXT:- 2 KINGS 4:23
The story of the Shunamite woman gives us an insight for today’s topic that even when we are passing through difficult times or situation; we need to act like this woman and declare it loud and clear that “It is well”.
Three different times she declared to herself and acted that it is well. Therefore we shall focus on this Shunamite woman’s profession and action:
1. She did not say it but her action spoke it, and that was when Prophet Elisha requested form her through Gehazi, his servant; that for all her cheerful giving and benevolence in taking good care of them, what would she desire or need in return. Her reply proved that she was saying ‘it is well’ i.e. I dwell among my own people. See 2 Kings 4:8,13,16-17.
2. She declared that it is well was when her miracle son grew up and fell sick, until he died. In fact she professed this statement twice in this her horrible situation of the death of her only son. But because she believed in the man of God (Elisha) and the God he served; miracle came her way and her son was restored back to life after much prayer by Elisha. See 2 Kings 4:18-37.
3. Another instance she acted that it is well was when Prophet Elisha instructed her to relocate due to the on-coming famine that was about to strike her land. In obedience to the word of God through His servant Elisha, she left for another land. Her obedience and action proved that she was demonstrating that ‘it is well’ though not professed vocally with her mouth but through her faith in God’s word through His servant. She obeyed and miracle came her way after which she returned to her country at the end of the 7 years’ famine. She also got back double blessing as commanded by the king in order that her restoration might be perfected. See 2 Kings 8:1-6.
It pays to act in faith and even declare that ‘it is well’ even when you are faced with hazardous and perilous times. As you act in faith, then expect what God will do on your behalf. Say, “IT IS WELL’. See James 1:2-4.
