THURSDAY 3RD MAY, 2018 MORNING PRAYER DEVOTION
SCRIPTURE READING:– MARK 5:1-20
TOPIC:- INSANITY NOR MADNESS IS NOT FOR YOU
TEXT:– MARK 5:9
Madness in Hebrew is “shaga” meaning insanity or madness or to be mad. The Hebrew word, “timmahown”, meaning confusion; mental illness. Also, the Hebrew word, “mehumah” means confusion; panic.
The Greek word “existemi” means, he lost his senses, while “paraphronia” of Greek word means madness too. It also denotes a reckless state of mind arising from various causes, as over-study, Ecclesiastes 1:17; 2:12; blind rage, Luke 6:11; or a depraved temper, Ecclesiastes 7:25; 9:3; 2 Peter 2:16.
Originally, madness simply means, “one who has sudden, unpredictable, wild outbursts of uncontrollable anger for no apparent reason accompanied with delusion and paranoia.”
This word madness is used in its proper sense in Deuteronomy 28:34; John 10:20; 1 Corinthians 14:23. In Scripture, “madness” is recognized as a derangement proceeding either from weakness and misdirection of intellect or from ungovernable violence of passion.
In John 10:20, madness expressly connected with demoniacal possession by the Jews in their cavil against our Lord. In none is it referred to any physical causes.
The Bible clearly says that God will strike sinners with madness as a curse. Exactly how God accomplishes this is unknown. Paranoia, panic and horror was a key factor in why armies would turn on themselves.
David feigned madness at Gath because he was sore afraid of Achish, 1 Samuel 21:13. Whereas Nebuchadnezzar was directly and miraculously stricken by God with insanity. Saul on the other hand, gradually became more psychotic with paranoia and delusion out of jealously, anger towards David and rebellion to God.
When God defeated the armies who attacked Israel, He did so by striking them with madness, so that they began to kill each other in a psychotic panic of confusion and delusion. For this reason God will send upon them a deluding influence so that they will believe what is false, 2 Thessalonians 2:11.
The ecstatic condition of one under the inspiration of the Divine or of evil spirits, such as that described by Balaam in Numbers 24:3, or that which Saul experienced in 1 Samuel 10:10 is compared to madness.
The most interesting case of real insanity recorded in the Old Testament is that of Saul, who, from being a shy, self-conscious young man, became, on his exaltation to the kingship, puffed up with a megalomania, alternating with fits of black depression with homicidal impulses, finally dying by suicide. See 1 Samuel 18:10.
The cause of his madness is said to have been an evil spirit from God, and when, under the influence of the ecstatic mood which alternated with his depression, he conducted himself like a lunatic. His mutterings are called “prophesying.” See 1 Samuel 19:23.
Today, there are many causes of madness but the known and major ones are drug addiction, attack of power of darkness, accident, insomnia, etc.
Only God can heal insanity completely. No other power can do it. Also, one can be placed on drug for rest of his or her mind.
With all the above mentioned, i believe you will never allow madness to operate in your life, but must be prayed off and be exterminated forever.
Prayer Points:-
1. I silence every spirit of insanity hovering around my life, in the name of Jesus Christ.
2. I reject by fire and by thunder to be a victim of insanity, in the name of Jesus Christ.
3. O Lord God, give me grace to reason, and think well, and do not let me relapse into memory loss, in the name of Jesus Christ.
Have A Fulfilling Thursday!
