God the Consuming Fire Versus Hire-Killer

Day 36: Wednesday 3rd June, 2020.
Scripture: Matthew 14:1-12
Topic: God the Consuming Fire Versus Hire-Killer
Text: John 10:10

The troubler called hire killer is a form of murder in which one party hires another party to kill a target individual or group of people.

It involves an illegal agreement between two or more parties in which one party agrees to kill the target in exchange for some form of payment, monetary or otherwise. Either party may be a person, group, or an organization. It has been associated with organized crime, government conspiracies and with vendettas. It provides the hiring party of not having to commit the actual killing, making it more difficult for law enforcement to connect said party with the murder.
Two entirely different words are translated “hire” in the Old Testament:
The most frequent one is sakhar, verb sakhar, and verbal adjective sakhir. As a verb:
It means “to hire” for a wage, either money or something else; in this sense it is used with regard to ordinary laborers. See 1 Samuel 2:5.
As mercenary soldiers. See 2 Samuel 10:6.
As a goldsmith. See Isaiah 46:6.
As a band of loose followers. See Judges 9:4.
As a false Priest. See Judges 18:4.
See Balaam in Deuteronomy 23:4.
As hostile counselors. See Ezra 4:5.
As a false Prophets. See Nehemiah 6:12.

As a Noun:
It denotes the wage in money, or something else, paid to workmen for their services. See Genesis 30:32; 31:8.
The rent or hire paid for a thing. See Exodus 22:15.
As a work-beast. See Zechariah 8:10.
In Genesis 30:16-18, Leah hires from Rachel the privilege of having Jacob with her again, and her conception and the subsequent birth of a son, she calls her hire or wage from the Lord for the gift of her slave girl to Jacob as a concubine.

Who Is The Thief Described In John 10 And What Does He Steal?
In John 10:6, it is a figure of speech, Jesus spoke to them, but they did not understand what those things were.
Notice that in this context, Jesus is speaking figuratively and metaphorically to make a point. Jesus is not talking about literal sheep or shepherds, nor is He talking about literal thieves stealing things. He is speaking about the Kingdom of God and how Jesus protects believers from all things, including from those who make false claims and attempt to deceive Christ’s followers.

Firstly, Jesus says that He is the door, the one way by which we may enter into eternal life.
Before Jesus came, there were others who came claiming to be the Messiah, but these false messiahs were merely “thieves” trying to steal Christ’s glory. Because they were not truly the Messiah, God’s children (i.e., the sheep) did not hear them. So notice that the thief in this passage is not the Devil. In this analogy, Jesus says that the earlier false messiahs were the thieves. Certainly, these false Prophets were working under Satan’s direction, but it is incorrect to say that the thief in John 10:10 is the Devil. In fact, it is the one who falsely claims to be Christ.

Secondly, notice that this is not a passage talking about when people die or how people die or if the Devil can cause someone to die or any of those things. This passage is not talking about living or dying at all. Instead, Jesus was talking about salvation. He was explaining that when the real Messiah arrived on earth, people appointed to salvation heard His voice and followed Him, because God’s people will always know the truth about God. Others have come into the world trying to deceive people into following them as if they were Christ these were the thieves.

We have physical hire killer and spiritual hire killer:
Physical hire killer kills their target physically with the means best for them e.g. gun, cutlass, acid strangulated to death, etc. to send their victim to life beyond.
But spiritual hire killers are things that make Christian to come down spiritually e.g. sin, worldliness etc. Stop spiritual hire killers in your life now before it is too late.

  • Prayer Points:
  • I command, everything stolen by the devil from me, locate me now by God’s consuming fire now, in the name of Jesus Christ.
  • I command all physical hire killer after my life, take your life and the life of your sender now, by God’s consuming fire, in the name of Jesus Christ.
  • O Lord God, deliver me completely from spiritual hire killer, in the name of Jesus Christ.
  • O Lord God, resurrect back to me all that spiritual hire killers have killed in my life, in the name of Jesus Christ.
  • Hire killer sent to kill me, summersault and die by God’s consuming fire, in the name of Jesus Christ.
  • God’s consuming fire, envelop me now for my protection henceforth, in the name of Jesus Christ.
  • God’s consuming fire fights for me always henceforth for my victory, in the name of Jesus Christ.

Say it loud and mean it:

“Lord Jesus, I surrender my life to you today. Forgive me my sins, wash me with your blood. I believe you died for me, on the third day you rose again that I may be justified. Right now, I believe that my sins are forgiven; I’m justified by your blood; I’m born-again; I’m saved; I’m a child of God; I’m free from the power of sin to serve the living God.
