Topic:- God The Consuming Fire Versus Doubt
Text:- Matthew: 14:31
The word doubt is defined in English word as derived from Latin dubitare or dubius from which we get “dubious.”
A. There are two different concepts of doubt:
1. Unbelief; disbelief; rejection; denial; agnosticism; faithlessness. [“Cartesian doubt” begins by doubting all things, but refuses to doubt its doubts]. While [Skeptics and scoffers begin with contempt and derision to prove their preconceived unbelief].
2. Uncertainty; lack of confidence; reservation; problematic; misgivings; skeptical; questioning; wavering; indeterminate.
B. There are some Greek words in the Bible references to doubt:
1. The Greek word “distazo” meaning twice or double. See Matthew 14:31; 28:17.
2. The Greek word “diakrino” meaning to judge; determine. See Matthew 21:21; Mark 11:23; Romans 14:23; James 1:6; Jude1:22.
C. What about Faith, [the opposite or enemy] and doubt: Greek word “pistis” means belief which is mental assent; cognitive acceptance; dogmatic assertion comprising intellectual certainty, [static].
While Faith is Volitional receptivity and availability allowing for functional certainty of God’s activity i.e. substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen. See Hebrew 11:1.
D. Now, relating doubt to belief and faith:
1. Belief and doubt.
a. The intellectual certainty of mental belief does not allow for unbelief, rejection or denial.
b. The intellectual certainty of mental belief does not allow for the uncertainty of questioning, reservations or misgivings.
2. Faith and doubt.
a. The functional certainty of receptive faith is founded upon belief in God, and therefore not functional when there is unbelief and rejection of God.
b. The functional certainty of receptive faith is not functional if we consider it impossible, unlikely or doubtful that God will function faithfully and sufficiently in accord with who He is. That is the divided mind or double-mindedness of doubt affirms belief in God, which questions God’s character or ability.
E. When we are living by faith that is receptive and available to God’s function in our lives:
1. We don’t know where God is taking us into the unknown and uncharted territory.
2. We don’t know where this adventure will end.
3. We don’t know what God will do next.
4. We don’t know how God is going to work this out.
5. We don’t know when this situation will be settled.
6. We don’t know why God is allowing this circumstance or why God is acting as He does.
You will not doubt because the doubt must be destroyed in our lives. Therefore, God’s consuming fire hate doubt and definitely will consume it by His fire. See 1 John 1:9.
Prayer Points:-
1. I command all that you lost to doubt and unbelief, come back to you, in the name of Jesus Christ.
2. I command every cloud of doubt in my life disappear by God’s fire, in the name of Jesus Christ.
3. I command every spirit of doubt, unbelief and uncertainty jump out of me by fire, in the name of Jesus Christ.
4. You doubt in my life, what are you waiting for, be consumed by God’s consuming fire, in the name of Jesus Christ.
5. I’m tired of this faithless and doubtful life I am living, oh Lord God, help me to live on faith henceforth, in the name of Jesus Christ.
6. My faith in God, grow up now by the power of Holy Ghost, in the name of Jesus Christ.
7. I doubt my doubts henceforth but believe my faith henceforth by God’s consuming fire, in the name of Jesus Christ.
