Text:- James 2:17
K. Faith Without Work Is Dead. Even So Faith, If It Hath Not Works, Is Dead, Being Alone.
1. Kinds Of Works:
a. Physical Works:
• God command human being to work. See Deuteronomy 5:13.
•. God blesses honest toil. See Proverbs 14:23.
•. God speak against laziness. See Proverbs 6:6-11; 10:4-5.
•. Reason for physical work is to our daily bread. See 2 Thessalonians 3:10.
b. Canal Works:
•. God condemned canal work which manifest as works of the flesh. See Galatians 5:19-21.
• For Example:
i. Yahoo Yahoo guys.
ii. Ritual money.
iii. Man sleeping with man.
iv. Drugs like cocaine.
c. Spiritual Work:
• These are good work done as a result of our professed faith in Jesus Christ Viz:
i. Evangelism. See Matthew 28:19.
ii. Care for needy, widow and orphan. See James 1:27.
iii. Care for Ministers of the Gospel. See Matthew 25:34-40.
iv. Faithfulness in Tithes and Offering. See Malachi 3:10.
v. Commitment to the service of God.
d. Application:
i. Jesus Christ command His Disciples to do good work that God the Father may be glorified. See Matthew 5:16.
ii. Why not teach saint how to get good work and work? See many that doesn’t have wotk.
iii. A story:
It was raining heavily on a Monday morning when I heard a knock at my door, I opened.
Standing before me was a young man with a bushy hair, dirty shoe, well soaked by the rain, looking too unkept for my liking.
Good morning, he greeted with humility. How may I help you? I replied in a displeasing manner.
Please sir, kindly help me with your umbrella if you have any, my journey is still very far from here, I promise to return it tomorrow morning.
I looked at him for a while, suddenly some thoughts came into my mind. Why would someone who’s already soak be asking for an umbrella, what if he doesn’t return it? I don’t trust you, but I will give you, I said. But make sure you return it tomorrow as you have promised.
I went in and get an old umbrella that i stopped using for months and gave to him.
Thank you very much, he happily expressed and left.
Next morning, a knock at my door, I came out and saw two handsome men dressed in a royal apparel.
Good morning sirs, I humblely bowed in greetings, Good morning, they replied.
Here is a present for you from our Prince, son of the Emperor. I don’t know any Prince, i muttered.
They brought out a well packaged Golden Box on the top of it they wrote, “Thanks for yesterday.”
I said to them, sorry I can’t remember meeting or helping any Prince yesterday, one of them brought out another presence here is also yours from the Prince.
I excitedly unwrap the gift in their presence behold it was my old dirty umbrella that I gave to the poor young man yesterday.
I screamed in tears, I didn’t give him my best, I had the best umbrella, but i gave him the worst. I wept betterly. The voice echoed so loud, IT IS TOO LATE TO APOLOGIZE.
When I lifted up my face the both men had disappeared. Immediately I remembered the sacrifice of Cain and Abel in Genesis 4:3-6. Cain had the best but gave God the worst.
Brethren please how is your services to God? Are you giving Him your best? or your Worst? Let this story be your mirror every day, look into your life again and again and Answer the above Question.
Prayer Point: Help oh Lord God, that my faith will increase so as to be able to fight the good fight of faith henceforth by fire, in the name of Jesus Christ.
