FRIDAY 16TH MARCH, 2018 MORNING PRAYER DEVOTION
SCRIPTURE READING:- 1 SAMUEL 13:1-15
TOPIC:- DON’T RUSH! BE PATIENT!
TEXT: GENESIS 16: 3-4
Impatience is deadly, it has sent thousands of people to their early grave. Impatience means lack of patience, restlessness and intolerance of delays, anxiety and eagerness, especially for something.
An ancient proverb says “patience is a flower that grows not in everyone’s garden”. Many find it difficult to cultivate this lovely flower in the garden of their lives. Yet, it is said often that whatever patience cannot do, impatience cannot and will never get it done. There are numerous tragedies of impatience which are everywhere in our society today manifesting as insanity, robbery, murder, abortion, occultism, suicide and premature deaths.
Sarah became impatient for the fact that God had promised them a child. She pressurized Abraham to put Hagar her housemaid in the family way. This did not only put Sarah herself into troubles but generations after continued to suffer for it. See Genesis 16:1-4,10-12.
King Saul was chosen of God and loved by his people. The kingdom was his. His assignment was however different from that of a Priest, Samuel, the priest who anointed him king told him to wait. For seven days he waited for the sacrifice to be made but then he had a problem with impatience and could not wait any longer. He intruded where he should not and so he lost the throne. Unfortunately, just as he was rounding off his sacrifices, Samuel the Priest came. It was too late for Saul to retrieve his steps. See 1 Samuel 13:8-14.
There is nowhere in the Bible where the sin of impatience received divine blessings. Esau rejected and despised his birthright. He would have waited until he has taken time to prepare his own meal. We were not told that there was famine in the land then. His problem was that he could not endure hunger until he prepares his meal. See Genesis 25:29-34.
Impatience kills. So, lets deal with impatience in our lives and embrace patience.
