THURSDAY 19TH APRIL, 2018 MORNING PRAYER DEVOTION
SCRIPTURE READING:- 2 SAMUEL 6:1-9
TOPIC:– DON’T ABUSE YOUR GOD’S GIFT LIKE UZZAH
TEXT:- 2 SAMUEL 6:3
The meaning of Uzzah comes from the Hebrew verb, “Azaz”. Generally means to be strong or powerful. This verb is often applied to denote one of God’s inherent qualities, in Psalm 89:13. Compared to man’s weakness, and when it’s applied to man, it usually denotes either a prevalence in battle, in Judges 3:10, or arrogance in Proverbs 21:29. It also means strong, mighty or fierce, in Numbers 13:28.
Uzzah was the son of Abinadab, in whose house the men of kirjath-jearim placed the ark when it was brought back from the land of the Philistines.
Uzzah was with his brother Ahio, he drove the cart on which the Ark was placed when David sought to bring it up to Jerusalem. When the oxen stumbled, Uzzah steadied the Ark with his hand, in direct violation of the divine law. He was immediately killed for his error.
David, displeased because the Lord had killed Uzzah, called the place where this occurred Perez-Uzzah, which means “to burst out against Uzzah”.
David was afraid to bring the Ark any further, and placed it in the house of Obed-Edom the Gittite for three months. The Lord then blessed Obed-Edom for that. And David went, and brought up the Ark of God into the city of David. See 2 Samuel 6.
Note that there is no way you can help God, He is capable to help and fight for Himself. There are many people in the Church today that are helping or fighting for God by judging people and putting themselves in the position of God.
Stop helping God! Stop abusing your God’s given gifts/talents. First remove the beam in your eyes before removing the mot in your brother’s eyes.
God sees everything even the one you cannot see. He will fight for Himself. He knows your intentions very well. See Hebrew 11:6.
