Christ’s Teaching On The Mount About The Kingdom [8]

Monday 9th September 2019 Prayer Devotion

Scripture Reading:- Luke 17:11-19

Topic:- Christ’s Teaching On The Mount About The Kingdom [8]

Text:- Proverbs 18:21

A. The Components Of Prayer:
Prayer is supposed to follow a pattern in steps. There should be an initial preparation which involves preliminary actions and steps that must be taken as the first steps in prayer.
These steps are given by Jesus. Once this is done, then you have to perform the main act of praying as described for us by Jesus, the Master Himself. See Matthew 6:5-13.

B. Prelimnaries Of Prayer:
Jesus advice is that you should not be a hypocrite. You must be private with God, shut your door and shut yourself out of the environment.
Do not use vain repetition like most people do as if God is deaf. You must make conclusive sentences and be clear about exactly what you want from God.
Be normal and straightforward; you don’t have to pretend to God and watch what you use your mouth to say. See Matthew 6:5-8; Proverbs 18:21.

C. The Main Act Of Praying:
Jesus described the main act of praying for us, He said, after this manner pray. That is to say let this be a guide to you. Then He gave the steps as listed below. Let us look at these as they follow each other. See Matthew 6:9-13.
a. Our Father which art in heaven. This implies that we have to come to God with a consciousness that God is your Father and you are His son. So talk to Him like a son will talk to his father, not fearfully or insultingly. Ephesians 3:11-12; Hebrews 4:16.
b. Hallow the name of the Lord. Hallowed be thy Name. That is, praise His Name, Glorify Him, Praise His act of protection, Worship Him. Revere His Name. Thank Him for things He has done in your life, and even for things you expect. Also thank Him for things He has done in lives of others. See Psalm 96:9; 105:1-2; Luke 17:11-19.
c. Confess any known sins and forgive those who have sinned against you. The next thing for you to do as laid down by Jesus is to confess your sins and also forgive all that have sinned against you. This is imperative for your enjoyment because God’s forgiveness is tied to your forgiving others. You must first be reconciled to your neighbor before praying to God or giving gift to God. See Matthew 6:12; 5:23-24; Mark 11:25-26.
d. Asky for what you want. What do you ask for?
1. From the way Jesus set it out, you have to ask for those things that has to do with the family of God first. You know that you are now a member of the family of God so you must seek that of the Kingdom first. In Jesus prayer He said, “Let thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven, let thy Kingdom come.”
2. Having taken care of Kingdom’s needs you can now ask for your own personal needs and thank Him while asking.
Thirdly: Having done the above two things, you can then start to intercede for others. However, if you want to be an effective intercessor for others then you have to follow certain known principles that will make your intercession most effective in achieving results.

Prayer Point:- I command power of praying and praying through in receiving, give unto me henceforth by fire, in the name of Jesus Christ.

ALTAR CALL

If you want to give your life to Christ; you want your sins forgiven; you want to become a child of God; you want to experience the realities of new birth; you want to make heaven;

Or you were once saved and fell along the line, and now you want to rededicate your life to Christ…

Then pray this short prayer of Faith

Say it loud and mean it:

“Lord Jesus, I surrender my life to you today. Forgive me my sins, wash me with your blood. I believe you died for me, on the third day you rose again that I may be justified. Right now, I believe that my sins are forgiven; I’m justified by your blood; I’m born-again; I’m saved; I’m a child of God; I’m free from the power of sin to serve the living God. Thank you Jesus for receiving me; thank you Jesus for restoring me; thank you Jesus for saving me.
