Tuesday 3rd September 2019 Prayer Devotion
Scripture Reading:- Matthew 5:1-37
Topic:- Christ’s Teaching On The Mount About The Kingdom [2]
Text:- 1 Peter 3:9
A. The Beatitude:
1. Poor in Spirit: There is Kingdom of God. That means a broken spirit that has left everything to God and sees itself as nothing.
2. The Meek: They shall inherit the earth. This means a humble, modest and gentle unassuming and unpretentious person. We should guard against pride, the pride of the mind and the pride of the will. The pride of the mind causes a man to think more highly of himself that he really is. The pride of the will causes a man to be discontented with his circumstances.
3. The Merciful: They shall obtain mercy. This means a compassionate, kind-hearted, lenient, humane and sympathetic person. Someone explains mercy in this way. He said, “Justice is getting what we deserve. Mercy is not getting what we deserve and Grace is getting what we do not deserve.”
4. The Pure in heart: They shall see God. This means a heart that is free of evil motives, an unselfish heart, a heart that recognizes God in all things, a heart that is clean and free from contaminations. A pure-hearted man will walk guiltless before God.
5. The Peacemaker: They shall be called children of God. A peacemaker is one who brings about peace, one who mediates, arbitrate, intervenes and intercedes between contending parties to bring about peace.
6. Will be persecuted for righteousness sake: Then there is Kingdom of God. If you are truly righteous, you will also pass through persecution. When they persecute you, rejoice for your reward is in heaven.
7. Those that must hunger and thirst after righteousness: They shall be filled. Seeking righteousness, continuously seeking to have right-standing with God.
B. The Christian Who Is A Citizen Of The Kingdom:
1. Must not kill: Not only should you not kill, you should not be angry with anybody without a cause. Do not curse your brother fool. Reconcile with people who offend you before giving your alms or offerings.
2. Must not commit adultery: Not only should you not commit adultery, you should not lust.
3. Must speak the truth: Let your YES be YES and your NO be NO.
4. Must love his enemies: Do not hate your enemies. Instead love them and pray for them. Jesus said, love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you and pray for them which despitefully use you and persecute you. Look also at I Peter 3:9.
5. Must not divorce: You cannot divorce except for the case of fornication. You cannot marry a divorcee.
6. Must have the righteousness that exceeds that of the Scribes and Pharisees. That is the showy type of righteousness to be seen to be righteous based on work.
7. Must practice giving the correct way: Avoid the type of giving that draws attention to the giver and draws the praise of men. It is the wrong type of giving.
Prayer Point:- Oh Lord God let me do as You commanded so as to become blessed, in the name of Jesus Christ.
