SATURDAY 10TH MARCH, 2018 MORNING PRAYER DEVOTION
SCRIPTURE READING:- ACTS 1:1-5
TOPIC:– BE A THEOPHILUS
TEXT:– ACTS 1:1
1. Who Was Theophilus?
Theophilus is the name or honorary title of the person to whom the Gospel of Luke and the Acts of the Apostles are addressed. See Luke 1:3, Acts 1:1.
The name Theophilus means friend of God, or (be)loved by God or loving God, in the Greek language. No one knows the true identity of Theophilus and there are several conjectures and traditions around an identity.
In English Theophilus is also written “Theophilos”, both a common name and an honorary title among the learned (academic) Romans and Jews of the era.
2. Why are we to Be A Theophilus:
a. There was only one person mentioned in the Bible that was called a friend of God, [2 Chronicles 20:7; Isaiah 41:8; James 2:23], so, if the meaning of Theophilus is a friend of God, then you too can be a friend of God. See John 11:3.
b. Another meaning of Theophilus is beloved or loved by God, i.e. God loves you, so you must reciprocate the love back to Him by being born again. See John 3:16.
c. And lastly, God is asking you to be a Theophilus. If Theophilus can be a very important person to the extent that Dr. Luke can mentioned his name in both gospel according to saint Luke and the book of Acts, then God, has determined to you too important. See 1 Peter 2:9.
3. Prayer Points:-
1. Oh Lord God, I want to be Your friend, make me to be one, in the name of Jesus Christ.
2. Oh Lord God, I know You love me, let me love You back in return, in the name of Jesus Christ.
3. Oh Lord God, create Your fear in me, that I may live my life in total obedience unto You, in the name of Jesus Christ.
Have A Beautiful Saturday!
